Dood ball

December 9, 2009 at 6:12 pm (Uncategorized)

I had a lot of fun animating the little ball with legs for animation and modeling. I made him do this jazz dance move I learned when I was about 7. It’s about the only thing I remember from the 4 years of jazz and ballet I took like two decades ago. Maybe more a decade and a half. Anyway the move is called a chasse lindy. I danced it to “I just can’t wait to be king” from the Lion King. It was exciting, and who knew i’d use my parents money in a school project 100 yrs later.

I don’t have a clue how to make a movie work in here. Youtube gave me the code for those other ones, so heres the link to look at it.

Ballman

I think photobucket messed it up though.

I don’t have images that relate to this post other then the movie. So here is something random.

Much excitement for our animation class next term.

Another website post

December 3, 2009 at 10:11 pm (Uncategorized)

So redesigning the Kids Kottage website for our last project. Every time I see the name I think KKK.

http://www.kidskottage.org

As usual I’m really unhappy with what I came up with. I’m pretty sure it’s because I never have any ideas anyway and just do what ever happens when I sit down at the computer, desperately.

Anyway, these are them.

So now we have to do something with fonts for it in css but I’m not really sure what exactly it is. I’m pretty confused at this point. I used to muck around with html when I was younger and I was kinda hoping it would help with this stuff. It’s not completely greek, but it’s not entirely clear either.

On the plus side I’m happy with the cookie logo stationary I made. I’m sure it will look like shit compared to everyone else’s tomorrow though. Anytime I think i’ve done something halfway decent every other person in the class has done an entirely better job; I’m starting to doubt my position in this program.

Also, it took me until getting to school this morning to realize I was wearing my dress inside out.

Chapbook

November 24, 2009 at 9:29 pm (Uncategorized)

So I have to make a chapbook for my creative writing option class. Its a compilation of assignments done throughout the course, and anything else written that you want to put in. It has to have some consistent design to it, not just a bunch of text.

I used Noodle’s windmill from the Gorillaz’s “El Manana” video as the picture for the cover, live traced in Illustrator. The rest I made using Indesign.

We could have just downloaded a template from here but I figured since I paid how much money to learn indesign I should probably use it. Of course, I haven’t used it since last year and forgot most it it. Now I can’t figure out how to print it as a booklet properly. Maybe those useful people in the library can help me.

The instructor of the course also gave us links to some local pubslishers specializing in chapbooks.

That last one is a wordpress blog, who knew. I never knew about wordpress before interface and now it seems like its popping up everywhere. Like when you own a certain car, you never notice how many of that particular car is owned by other people until you own it yourself. Because thats on topic.

Anyway, I’m fairly pleased with the design of my chapbook so far. It’s starting to make me realize i’ve actually learned something in the past two and a half years. Who knew.

I love forgetting important things. Oh wait … no I don’t. I’m gonna get marks taken off for this. Makes me sad. I’ll remember next week, right?

Well I’ll talk about the current assignment, I’m liking it so far. First mockups were really pink. I meant it to be red because I wanted it to resemble the business card I made in dig apps 2 last year. I sampled the colors from the pdf I had of the card, and they ended up looking pink. I’m not sure why, because the card isn’t pink.

Didn’t like it so pink, so I redid it in red. The colors don’t match the business card now though, which is lame. Oh well.

The Lonely Island

October 15, 2009 at 5:14 pm (Uncategorized)

Andy Samberg is awesome.

I first saw him in this awesome Saturday Night Live video.

I love this video, I’ve watched it about 50 times.

Also awesome, The Lonely Island, Andy Samberg’s band. This is my favourite song.

There are also two other band members, but I’m not sure why. There are a couple songs that feature just the two of them and leave andy out, but are really lame. Basically any of the songs that don’t have andy in them are just lame. Can you say carried?

They also have a show, which the two are slightly more funny in. They are still carried though. I can’t even remember their names, thats how much they don’t matter to the songs.

This is also awesome because it has Jack Black in it, which is just self explanatory.

Website Audits

September 30, 2009 at 4:25 pm (Uncategorized)

The five websites I reviewed were the following …

Second Cup

I found Second cup to be the best out of the five. It as easy to navigate, had lots of information and didn’t seem to have any technical errors. The only problem I found was the lack of color scheme. Everything was brown, and although that obviously suits the theme of coffee, it started to be too repetitive.

Folgers

Although folgers was visually appealing, I found the site to be relatively useless. The navigation was confusing, and each page didn’t have much information. They had a recipes page which was neat, but that was the only thing I found interesting. At least, thats the opinion I had when I did the audit. They have revamped the site since then, and it seems to be easier to navigate now.

Timothy’s

This site was very basic, gave info etc so it was useful, but not very appealing to look at. I didn’t like the layout, color scheme … basically the overall design. This one was my least favorite.

Booster Juice

This site was the most visually appealing, and fun to navigate through. However, the amount of graphics and flashy junk loaded it down, and each page took entirely too long to load. I didn’t even read half of them because I got frustrating waiting to actually view it.

Steeps

This site was basic and did the job, which was nice. It had the right feel for the product, and was easy to navigate. There is a forums sections that would be a really good addition, if it weren’t for the fact that nobody has posted on it. I also really liked the logo.

Damaged

So I guess what originally got me into design was my interest in comics. It takes a lot more to design a comic book page than most people would think (a good one anyways). I never really got too much into Marvel or DC comics, although I do read a few. I mostly enjoyed independent artists.I used to surf the web looking at online comics and getting to know the people who made them. I found most of my favorite artists lived in Canada, in particular an artist who called himself Locke. He is by far the person who has influenced me the most in my own pursuits in illustration. In particular, a comic he titled Ride.

Ride is about two people who live together and seem to be in love, or at least the guy, Gloves, loves the girl, Shay. Shay is really mentally unstable however, and there is much allusion to previous complications in their relationship because of her state of mind. The guy puts up with a lot of crap, including shay stringing herself up on the top of their apartment building. She of course falls, and Gloves jumps over the edge after her.

The art in this comic is really well done. I’m most impressed by the attention to detail in the scenes and they way the panels are laid out. The only thing unfortunate about Locke, is that he hasn’t posted anything new to his site in several years. He pretty much just dropped off the face of the internet comic planet.
